Recently I found this application in the AppStore. Since Chinese New Year is coming, many oversea Chinese are traveling back to Chinese to have family reunion. If you are one of them, you must have this free application on your iPhone. It will make your travel in China much easier.

The application is called Show24. It’s basically a Chinese version of GPS maps, bus, train, and flight information center, real time traffic alert, and weather.

It’s much better than the built-in Google map on your iPhone. It allows you to download the city maps, so that you don’t need cellular or WiFi connection while you are using it. This is really neat and will save you a fortune, because the data roaming in overseas on your iPhone is way too expensive. In addition, it’s tailored to fit the situations in China. For example, you don’t have to fill the exact address for directions. Instead, you just have to input the name of the locations or buildings, like “Tian An Men Square”, “Twin Tower”. Of course, you input those names in Chinese. In the direction search, it offers 3 options, driving, by taxi, or by public transportation. If you choose taxi or public transportation, it will not only show you the direction on map and in text, but also give you the estimate of the fare. Cool, isn’t it?

The best of all, it’s free! You just need to open AppStore on your iPhone, search “Show24”, and download it to your iPhone. Make sure you download the city maps before you head onto the road.
